We are seeing it all over social media. But what is the difference? Why would I chose one over the other? Well look no further, we are here to help break it down.
First things first. The #1 question, ” Do lash extensions ruin my lashes?” There isn’t a simple answer to that question, so here is what I tell my clients. Anytime you put something artificial, (nail polish, hair color, acrylic nails, etc), on you have a risk of damage. It all boils down to how extreme you go and if you follow proper care of the lashes.
- Cluster Lashes, Express Lashes, and sometimes referred to as Individuals. These lashes are made to be worn for shorter time, up to 2 weeks. Perfect for photos, vacation, wedding etc. They are littler clusters of 4-5 synthetic lash hairs that are glued on top of your natural lash. Typically this lash technique takes 15-20 for application and cost about $40. If not properly cared for it is easier to damage your natural lash with this technique. That being said, if you follow the directions of your lash tech, they are simple to care for and can be worn with minimal damage. Again these are not intended for longterm wear.
- Individual Lashes, Volume Lashes, Classic Lashes. This type of lash is designed for more longterm wear. It is a technique of applying a lash extension in a 1:1, 3:1 or even 5:1 on your natural lashes. Which makes it more natural feeling and tends to have little to no damage since it is able to shed off with your natural lash. The process for the initial set takes 2 plus hours depending on the type you get. Since we naturally shed 1-5 lashes per day, every 3 weeks you will need a fill, which typically takes 45 minutes or more. The average cost for these lashes ranges form $160-$200. Typically the lashes are synthetic, but some salons do offer mink hair. Another benefit to these lashes is that they are so customizable. You can have anything from a good mascara look to Kim K. lashes.
So in conclusion, the type of lash that best suits you is dependent on your wants. If you just want a cute lash for a special event or to just try them out, the cluster lash is perfect for you. If you are wanting to wear lashes continually, and your will to do the up keep, than get you some individuals!
