Inquiring minds want to know, “How do you use 100% cotton thread to remove hair??” Well pull up a seat and I’m goin to fill you in.
The History
It is believed that the practice of threading for hair removal is 1,000’s of years old. It originates from eastern cultures such as in India and Iran. It is also thought that the Chinese prefer this form of hair removal as well.
Threading has been a part of traditions. For example, in Persia it was tought that eyebrow threading marked a woman’s path to adulthood. She would have her eyebrows threaded right before she got married.
How Does It Work?
Put simply, you loop and twist 100% cotton thread, and as the twist is moved back and forth it grabs hairs pulling them from the root. Don’t be fooled into thinking just anyone can twist some thread and shape your eyebrows. It takes training and skill to create a precise brow and shape. Since threading has made its way to this part of the world, many men and women have recognized it as a quick and precise way to remove facial hair and shape eyebrows.
Benefits of Threading.
So now that we know the origin and how it works, are there any benefits to threading. Why would I not just continue using wax or tweezers?
First of, I am not anti-wax or tweezers. I am a firm believer that a client needs to use a method they feel comfortable with. This is just so you can make a more informed decision.
- Chemical Free: Since only cotton thread is used, there is no need to worry about allergic reactions, or reactions due to skincare products , medications, or just sensitive skin. Also, the top layer of skin is not damaged.
- Removes Short and Fine Hair: We all have it, that fine “baby” hair that waxing or tweezing just can’t grab. Threading is able to grab those hairs as well as any short hairs that are just barely through the skin surface.
- Lasts 4-6 weeks: Threading plus hair from the root and as mentioned above grabs hairs that wax or tweezers can’t giving you a longer lasting hair removal service.
- Removes Large Areas of Hair: Again since it is chemical free, it can remove hair from anywhere on the face without cause damage to the skin.
- Precise Shaping: With Threading the tech can remove a few or many hairs. They are in full control of what hairs are removed, leaving you with a precise clean brow.
Are there any cons of threading. Yes, nothing is perfect. Here they are.
CONS:
- If done INCORRECTLY can cause irritation .
- Takes slightly longer than waxing
Is It Painful?
This is probably the #1 question I get about threading. In short, no hair removal technique feels good. Everyone has a different pain threshold. To me, its not that it hurts more or less, its a different sensation. Waxing is like pulling a bandage of, where as threading is like a tweezer on steroids. Its not as fast as wax but not as slow as tweezing.
I always tell first timers to try it twice before you decide you don’t like it. The first time your not sure what to expect so by the second time you can make an accurate decision.
